Resident Evil Movie Will Not Feature Leon Kennedy, Director Confirms

The director of the upcoming Resident Evil movie has confirmed that Leon Kennedy will not be a part of it, and it will be an original story.

Resident Evil movie has been making steady progress lately. Most recently, we learned that Paul Walter Hauser from Fantastic 4 has joined the cast. We also know the upcoming movie’s tone is in line with RE4. Now, the director has revealed some new details, confirming that Leon Kennedy is not a part of the upcoming RE movie.

Resident Evil Movie is an Original Story, And Leon Kennedy Won’t Be There

During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Resident Evil movie director Zach Cregger discussed why Leon Kennedy was not included in the movie. Cregger first confirmed that the Resident Evil movie features an “entirely original story.” He added that fans will feel that “this is very Zach” when they watch the film, “it’s just [that] it takes place in the Resident Evil world.” Cregger feels that fans of the games will not be “bummed,” a sentiment he has expressed before as well.

Talking about Leon Kennedy in the Resident Evil movie, Cregger stated that he will not be stealing the character for an original story. However, the director added that he respects the games enough to ensure the story is told within the Resident Evil canon. Which means that everything players love from the games will remain intact. Players will appreciate that the director is taking the extra effort not to mess with the canon that the games have created over the years.

In other news, the upcoming Resident Evil movie will ‘feel fresh, edgy, and weird’. Additionally, read about Resident Evil Requiem’s new horror system, which plays around with players’ emotions.
